A MESSIANIC PASSOVER SEDER

Maundy Thursday, April 21 at 6:00 p.m.

Our liturgy for the Eucharist is based on the Passover Seder Jesus celebrated with his disciples on Maundy Thursday. The Passover Seder is a festival meal celebrating God’s deliverance of Israel from Egypt. As Christians, we celebrate Christ Jesus as our Passover, the fulfillment of all of God’s promises to Israel, our salvation from sin, and deliverance into the Kingdom of God. So, we celebrate the Seder to remember what Jesus did, to learn the roots of our faith, and to grow in understanding of contemporary Judaism. The Seder will include the Lord’s Supper (Communion) with bishop +John and Meg Guernsey.

The Seder is more than a religious service. For Jews today, as in Jesus’ time, it was a full meal celebrated not in Synagogues or at the Temple, but in homes. Our Seder will be a full meal, honoring Jewish traditions, with explanations of what the symbols mean for us today. Children should attend! They have some vital roles to play.

Because a full meal will be served, reservations are required. Tickets may be purchased on Sundays through Palm Sunday. $10.00 Adults; $5.00 children 10 years old and under. Partial or full financial assistance is available through Fr. Theron. Never let money stop you from participating in these important events!

Passover is a special, honored meal. In Jewish homes it is time to bring out the best of everything. So, we will not be using disposable anything! We are looking for households to sponsor a table for six (All the tables are spoken and accounted for!). Sponsorship involves setting the table. Details are provided below, and contact Pam Hotchkiss is you are interested. photchkiss@comcast.net 720-420-9048

Menu

There are traditional foods prescribed by Scripture for the Seder, including unleavened bread, lamb, herbs, and wine. These are the “liturgical” aspects of the Seder. The menu for the festival meal reflects Jewish traditions and includes Herb Roasted Glazed Chicken Breast with Apricots and Prune Glaze

Herb Roasted Potatoes with carrots and onions.
